Friends of Dyke Marsh Meeting: Restoring Mussels to the Potomac River
February 23 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Bringing freshwater mussels back to the Potomac River is the topic of the Friends of Dyke Marsh, Sunday, February 23, meeting, when Dean Naujoks, the Potomac Riverkeeper, will describe Potomac Riverkeeper Network’s 50 Million Mussel Project. Their goal is to restore this important bivalve to the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. Mussels are nature’s water-based “cleanup crew.” One adult mussel can clean up to 10 liters of water per day
The meeting will be at 3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Government Center, 2511 Parkers Lane (two miles west of the GWM Parkway). Join FODM from 2 to 3 p.m. for our social hour, camaraderie and light snacks.
Cosponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh, Northern Virginia Trout Unlimited, Friends of Mason Neck State Park, Four Mile Run Conservancy Foundation, Friends of Little Hunting Creek, Friends of Accotink Creek and the Prince William Conservation Alliance.
